It’s Time to Light a Fire

Spring may be around the corner, but this morning the chill gave me the opportunity for one more toasty fire. In Indiana, you never know what the weather will bring, so who knows how many more mornings I will enjoy my quiet time by a lovely fire.

I woke this morning to a quiet house. Not only were my sweet children still in slumber but my son, home for spring break, and two of his buddies were all still sound asleep. It was a great time to enter the Secret Place. Today I want to share with you some wise words I read in the book, Secrets of the Secret Place, by Bob Sorge.

I truly believe that our lives are too busy. We wake up, our feet hit the floor and we’re off, and we don’t stop until we drop back into bed at night. While we hurry, God waits. While we rush, God remains. Our to-do list drowns out His still small voice, and our devotion runs in many directions, but not into His arms.

“The Secret Place is your portal to the throne. When you build your life on the blessed intimacy of a secret place relationship with God, you are building on the rock. My role in the secret place is to listen for anything God might want to speak.” But are we too busy for the secret place? Do we make time to soak in his presence on a regular basis?

“One of the most violent things you’ll ever do is wrestle down all the competing elements in your calendar and consistently carve out time to shut yourself into the secret place. In the busy seasons, it can seem as though a thousand other voices are clamoring for your attention. Which voice will rule, the voice of uncompleted tasks or the gentle voice that beckons you to the secret place?”

In the sea of things to do, in the clamoring of social media and entertainment, turn your attention. Run after Him. Seek Him with all your heart. If things are a bit chilly, it is time to light a fire!

Funny, for Lent this year I have up 30 minutes of my lunch each day at work to spend soaking up God’s presence and listening. Makes for a much more productive & peace-filled afternoon! 🙂

I see it as, you didn’t give up 30 minutes, you gained everything! So excited for you!
