Comfort and Joy is Your Gift to Give

December 8, 2014

In case you were still searching for that perfect gift, I have a suggestion, tidings of comfort and joy.   There is great need for comfort and joy in our world.  Oh the sadness and struggles that fill the souls of those around us.  But the angels declared news of comfort and joy.  This Christmas let that gift of comfort and joy come through you.

Once again to present the gift of comfort it is vital that we seek the source of all comfort.  As we submit and walk IN Him we will then have something to offer.  God is the one who knows the hearts of men.  He is the one who is privy to the deepest recesses of each heart.  It is He who can lead us, guide us and reveal to us the sorrows and needs all around us.  It is then His strength that enables us to come along side those in need of comfort.

We alone cannot bear the weight of the world.  The sorrow out there is great.  But through Him we can be an instrument of comfort and joy.

It will take the first gift of noticing.  You will need to slow down and truly see mankind.  I think of the phrase on the Statue of Liberty, “the huddled masses,” they are all around us.  They are in the store and in our churches.  They are even in our homes.

The prerequisite for comfort is compassion.  We need to care.  I will confess there have been many times I did not care.  The cares of this world had so defeated me, I had nothing to offer.  If we allow our lives to so overwhelm us, the world will be filled with nothing but broken souls and no one to help lift the weary masses.  If you lack compassion then something MUST go.  You yourself are in great need of comfort and the best way to receive is to give.

Do not wait to comfort others until you yourself are comforted, for it is in giving that we receive.  Ask God to show you someone who needs the comfort that you can offer.  Ask Him how you can bring joy.

This Christmas let it be said of us that we spread comfort and joy wherever our footsteps went.  Comfort is a true gift that will keep on giving
