When Things Seem the Worst, you Musn’t Quit!

August 20, 2014

At the conclusion of yesterday’s post, I promised a reading list.  These are books that deal specifically with, overcoming with scripture. The very small books by John Osteen, (Joel’s father) were  life changers for me. I believe his books are no longer in print, but always available on Amazon. I have included the links.

My father is known as “Mr. Fantastic.” “Fantastic!” is always his response when someone asks how he is doing. My Dad is one person who will not allow a negative thought to take up residence, and that is the key. Each negative and depressing thought we allow to enter our minds is like a brick. If we invite it in, before long we have begun building a stronghold in our minds, one brick at a time. It is time to get the wrecking ball out. Use these tools to DILIGENTLY seek God and His word to tear down any stronghold that is trespassing in your mind.

The following is one of my Dad’s favorites.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

when funds are low and the debts are high,

and you want to smile but you have to sigh.

When care is pressing you down a bit,

rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

as every one of us sometimes learns;

and many a failure turns about,

and he might have won had he stuck it out.

Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow,

you may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than

it seems to a faint and faltering man.

Often the struggler has given up,

when he might have captured the victor’s cup,

and he learned too late, when the night slipped down,

how close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,

the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

and you cannot tell how close you are,

it may be near when it seems afar.

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit;

It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

“Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Myers  Worry, doubt, confusion, depression, anger and feelings of condemnation: all these are attacks on the mind. If readers suffer from negative thoughts, they can take heart! Joyce Meyer has helped millions win these all-important battles. She teaches how to deal with thousands of thoughts that people think every day and how to focus the mind the way God thinks. And she shares the trials, tragedies, and ultimate victories from her own marriage, family, and ministry that led her to wondrous, life-transforming truth–and reveals her thoughts and feelings every step of the way.
