Tea Time with Beatrix Potter

May 17, 2013

Here we are on the precipice of summer. I should be looking forward to lazy days and firefly nights but instead I’ve been tempted to leap off that precipice because I’ve been a little stressed. Time to take a time out for tea. Yes, I am heeding my own advice and taking time for tea.
Too often we can get so involved with the cares of life that we lack time for the people who need a little love and attention; tea time!
I am not talking about hours of fancy food preparation, but instead a menu of what you have on hand. For me, tea time is about fun and pretty table settings of things that are special to you and fellowship. If you have the time and desire, by all means fix fancy tea treats. For me, fancy food is an obstacle that will keep me from even trying.
For our tea party we chose the theme of Beatrix Potter. I am quite enamored of her tales and endearing illustrations. She has been an inspiration to me for years. We have a hodgepodge collection of Beatrix Potter dishes. We have Jemima Puddleduck dishes, Benjamin Bunny and Peter Rabbit cups also. I ordered one yard of Beatrix Potter fabric on-line a year ago and it makes a perfect table cloth for a small table. To top off the table, as a center piece I found an adorable planter at Menards last week. It is a rabbit popping out of a half eaten radish; so Peter Rabbit.
Quick sandwiches were made from leftover grilled chicken and diced into yummy chicken salad. The girls made them into fun shapes by using teacup shaped cookie cutters. Fruit was diced and made into a fresh fruit salad. A quick run to the store gave us our treats, store bought brownie bites and cookies. No baking required. Then I picked up our guest of honor, a precious 83 year old friend.
We all wore hats, which is the requirement at all our tea parties and later I loved looking at the photo of Anna in a lovely hat in her Harley Davidson t-shirt, quite a contrast.
It was a lovely perfect day and the company was even better. Good-by stress, hello to IMG_20130516_145639 Potter teatable

The season ahead can be stressful or you can take some time out for tea. I suggest the tea.
