“I love you Gloria, I always have… like you love the beach or a good book or the beach!” You’ve gotta love Melmin. Now, I may not have any amorous feelings for hippos, but I do love the beach and a good book. Put them together and… (angel singing)
Today is a perfect day for some outdoor relaxation coupled with a good book, so here are my suggestions for your summertime reading pleasure.

The following books are my suggestions to enrich your spiritual life.

Daily Devotions:
“Come Away My Beloved” by Frances J. Roberts This is the best devotional I may have ever used. I highly recommend it.
“Jesus Calling, Enjoying Peace in His Presence” by Sarah Young
“All for Jesus” by Franklin Graham

I believe Jesus is calling His church, His bride to return to her first love. These books will be great to help you once again ignite your love and passion for Jesus.
“Passion for Jesus, Cultivating Extravagant Love for God” by Mike Bickle
“The Seven Longings of the Human Heart” by Mike Bickle
“After God’s Own Heart” by Mike Bickle
“The Pleasures of Loving God: by Mike Bickle

Can you tell I’m enjoying a lot of books by Mike Bickle. He is the director of the International House of Prayer of Kansas City, a 24 hour a day ministry of worship and intercession.

Now for those read-aloud times here are my suggestions. First of all, grab a blanket and head out to the nearest spot of shade. Bring along some lemonade and maybe a plate of cookies, then kick back and enter the word of make-believe and childhood delights.

“Gone Away Lake” by Elizabeth Enright
“Return to Gone Away Lake” by Elizabeth Enright This is our first read aloud for this summer.
“The Wind in the Willows” by Kenneth Grahame This was our book for last summer and we thoroughly enjoyed every word.
You can never go wrong with a classic like, “Anne of Green Gables” by L.M. Montgomery or “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott
I also recommend the following books for their sweetness and classic traditional values of long ago girl and boyhood. They are great for your pre-teen hearers. “The Bobsey Twins” series; “The Happy Hollister’s” series; “The Boxcar Children” series and “Elsie Dinsmore” series

There is no time to waste. Spring has been late in coming this year. So if you love the beach or a good book or even a hippo named Gloria, take time to relax and read this summer.
