Ahhhhh Spring!

May 7, 2013

Praise the Lord for spring! Can I get an Amen? I was really beginning to wonder if we were entering into a new ice age, but I think it may be here at last. I’m afraid to even make that statement because once I do, it may just snow. You think I’m being too extreme? Just this past weekend I flew to Kansas City to visit my son. On Wednesday it was 80 degrees. On Thursday it snowed 3 inches. It is enough to drive a winter-tired girl to exasperation.
I flew home late on Sunday night and when I opened my bedroom window shades on Monday morning the glorious springtime view brought me to shed a little tear. There standing to greet me was my glorious crab apple tree. It looked like an explosion of cotton candy. I could not wait to get outside and to just sit and stare at it.
This has been a long winter indeed and I want to encourage you to stop and literally smell the flowers. (the roses are not blooming yet) But I will tell you what is blooming; the lilacs. That heavenly fragrance is a gift from God, a slight hint of the fragrance in heaven. It is the scent of a forgotten age; the nostalgic perfume of Grandmothers and Great Aunts.
Oh Dear one, the flowers, like many things in life are here but for a moment. Even now their sweet petals drift to the ground as the summertime leaves push their way out. Do not miss this spring. Do not miss this day. I’m going to grab an old quilt, my daughters and a good book and head out to the lilac bush. I plan on camping out under its boughs until I am fully intoxicated with its lovely aroma.
What are your plans for today? Can you make some time for flower sniffing, lounging or strolling? Oh a stroll sounds so nice. We are quite proficient in power walking but how about strolling? A spring time stroll by a creek is a must to add to your to-do list.
So go on, get outside. Do not let this beautiful day or life pass you by. Ahhhhhh, spring!

Wish I could send some lilacs your way. They always make me think of Mom because she had some lilac perfume. I always loved it and now their fragrance brings me right to her.
