Rainy Day Thoughts

April 10, 2013

Spring has finally sprung! For this I truly say, “Praise the Lord!” It has been a long time in coming. The warm weather has arrived and with it the anticipation of my long awaited summer days of frolic. Alright, I actually don’t quite frolic, it is more of a meander; but I do enjoy watching the children frolic. It was not that long ago that I too could become quite engrossed in a good frolic. Who knows, with my change in diet and improved healthy eating; I may once again join the ranks of fellow frolickers.
With the arrival of spring; so too come the rains. A spring rain is a much more acceptable rain. Instead of the biting cold and the low heavy clouds of winter rain storms; spring rains bring such a fresh coolness to the air. Spring rains in this part of the country tend to arrive with some violence but that seems somewhat acceptable because my daffodils are blooming and signs of peonies and hydrangeas are poking their heads from the damp soil.
I too feel fresh and new, like I too am just newly poking up my winter weary head. As I throw off the layers that have kept me snug through this too long winter; I also feel that I am also throwing off much more. For me, winter tends to darken my hope and dampen my joy. Feelings of remembered youthful exuberance hibernate. Memories of summers past begin to dim and the belief that the green will return starts to wane. But in His great mercy, God returns the season of life to us once again.
Ahhhhh, spring! We wait and wait for it. I stand with my to-do list like a runner at the starting block, careful not to make a false start in my giddy eagerness. Garden tasks await. There is mulch to spread, and waterfalls to be repaired. Outdoor furniture waits in the shed to once again host lingering summer parties. The pool is ready to once again have two little girls play in it until they are sufficiently wrinkled and the new dreams of this summer; a greenhouse and strawberry boxes, are racing in my thoughts waiting to materialize.
So today the rains are heralding the arrival of spring, but the moment they are finished, I am ready to bolt out of the starting block. My hope is renewed and soon the peace and calm of this rainy spring day will erupt into joyful preparation for the best season of all; summer!

Thank the Lord! I do love the garden too. We are doing a class on herbs and creating boxes out of pallets this season. I’ll send you pics when we get a few finished. Wood shop, Science, Health, Social Studies, Art all in one. Life is good!

I am finally eating like you. I have joined the ranks of veggie lovers; only I also eat salmon twice a week to aid with arthritis. This year will be a big garden year. We also plan on adding chickens; all this while trying to make it look lovely and French. I’ve been on track now for 3 weeks. Starting to feel so much better. Thanks for the inspiration.
