No King But Jesus

November 7, 2012

The polls are closed and the ballots are being tabulated.  Who will be the next president of the United States?

I, like many others, have spent the last 40 days praying for America.  Every night for 40 days a very small group of us met together and followed the prayer suggestions of “If My People 2012.”

My hope as we started out was for revival to come to America.  Night after night a new topic brought new realizations on the condition of our nation.  My prayer for revival turned into repentance for our nation and that repentance turned into personal repentance and a cry for awakening in the church.

America is in great need.  Many of us are aware of that fact.  The problem is that many people do not agree on what that need is and so our solutions vary.  As the polls show, this presidential race is a close one.  People have strong opinions on what the problems are and who has the answers to those problems.

Is moral decline our issue? I believe so.  Is a sleeping church our issue?  That too is an issue and a very serious one.  Many Christians look to the presidential race and the hope for a new president to bring about change.  The problem is not who is in the White House.  The problem is the church.

It is time for Jesus to once again be the ruler of our nation and of our hearts; but to be the God which this nation is under; He must first be the God on the throne of His own church.

Are our eyes really open?  Are we honest with the state of the church and the state of our own hearts?  I thought I was doing fine.  I stood on the blood of Christ for my righteousness and felt I truly loved God.  But some changes are in order.  I now see that my 40 days of prayer were only the opening act.  God had more to show me than I was seeking.  He was looking at the bigger picture while I was short sighted.

I found that I lacked understanding on waiting on God and tarrying.  I expected to pray and for God to move.  You may laugh at my arrogance; but I know that I am not alone in our society of immediate gratification.  I wanted changes in our nation and in our government; but God wanted changes in me.  He wanted me to come to a point where I could trust Him with the outcome of the election.  He wanted the cry of my heart to be that He would rule this nation and my heart not a presidential nominee.  He wanted me to become an intercessor and to see that we are all called to pray day and night and He is calling us so that we will be found faithful when He returns. (Matt 18)

We all desire for God to bless America, but first we must bless God.  It is time to recast our ballot.  We need a new ruler.  We need to re-elect Jesus as the Lord of this nation, the Lord of the church and the Lord of our lives.  It is time to vote again.  Who do you vote for?  Let me suggest you choose to place Jesus on the throne once more.  Let us have no king but Jesus.
