“How was your day today?”  “Fine.”  “Did you do anything special?”  “No, just the same old thing.”

Have you ever had this conversation?  Does your life seem to be a lot of the same old thing?  It is very easy to get in a rut when our schedules are so jammed packed that it leaves little room for variety.  By the way, have you ever heard the definition for a rut?  It is a grave with the ends knocked out.

Well, Abra-ka-dabra, shazam! I just pulled out my trusty magic wand and wacked you on the head.  Did you feel it?  Did you feel the instant inspiration to add a little magic to your life?

Everyone loves a little magic.  Fairy tales and magical adventures entice us in stories and on the screen because we all yearn for a little magic in our lives.

Escaping this life through stories or film is not necessary.  There are so many ways you can bring a little magic into your life; and now that I’ve wacked you, the ideas should just begin to flow.

Tonight we watched a DVD; one of my favorites; “Miss Potter.”  The difference was, we watched it out on the screen porch with the sun setting in the background.  Just a dab of magic.  Last winter we hauled the TV out to the back deck near the fire pit.  We bundled up, built a fire, and with a group of friends, watched, “White Christmas.”  Viola, magic!

My back patio is all about magic to me.  It is my rendition of a French patio.  Twinkle lights wrap the trees that surround my rustic wood table.  We make it a habit to eat outside as often as possible and we always enjoy a little French background music.  Add a few friends gathered round my table and it is a magical evening.

The opportunities to add a little magic to life surround us.  Take a different route home from work with a detour through the park.   Eat lunch outside on a picnic blanket.  Read a story aloud by the campfire.  Take a walk around the yard at night gazing at the stars and gazing back at your home with the warm inviting lights glowing through the windows.  Run through the yard with the kids scooping up fire flies.

Magic surrounds us; you just need to open the eyes of your heart to see through the veil that hides the magic from those too busy to look for it.

Find some magic today.  Just a little.  It is like pixie dust, it only takes a little.  Then, when someone asks you tomorrow, “How was your day?”  You can answer, “Magical!”
