The Beginning of Your Path (Part 5 in the “Renew” Series)

February 2, 2012

Hello again dreamers.  While I have been away getting repaired I hope you have been dreaming.  Right now as I sit and recover, I am gazing out my window and dreaming of spring.  It is not too hard to do with the sun shining and much warmer than normal temperatures.  I will admit that a lovely spring day does seem quite far away when the sky is grey, the ground is white and the wind is howling.  Sometimes we just need something to give us a little glimmer of hope that spring really is right around the corner.  The same is true for our other dreams.  Sometimes we just need a sign that we are on the right track; just a glimmer that some day we may actually reach that dream.

That is where goals come in.  Goals are stated objectives with detailed steps that give you a plan to work, a monitor to gauge yourself and a sign to show if you are on the right track.  Goals are the feet that we put to our dreams.

Dreams are the desires that God places in our hearts.  Goals are the written plans that help you overcome obstacles, help you set timelines and allow you to count the cost before you begin.    Sometimes the cost to reach your dream is great.  That does not mean it is not worth attaining.  It only means that you need to be aware of your path ahead.  You will not see the entire picture.  God is the only one who has that and we don’t always know what twists and turns are ahead.    We do need to set goals but do not set them in cement.  Allow God to direct your path.  Do all that you know to do but know that God still has new things he wants to reveal to you; new parts of the puzzle, new vision for your dream’s accomplishment and new dreams all together.

Let me share with you a little of my story.  I have wanted to write and be a published author since I was a young girl.  I don’t just want to be a writer; I AM a writer.  I write in my head at all times.  No paper is needed.  I have enjoyed writing stories and children’s books for years.  This past May I went to a writer’s conference in North Carolina.  Retired Army Major Jeff Struecker (of “Black Hawk Down” Fame) was the key note speaker. I had no idea who he was or what benefit I could receive from “an Army guy.”  As I drove home from the conference I knew my life had been changed.  That “Army guy” changed the direction of my writing and my life with what he said.  So here I am eight months later; I have written 150 blog entries and a non-fiction book I hope to send to a publisher soon.  But my direction has been redirected and fine tuned.  I write to serve God, encourage and change lives.  Now some new goals need to be set.

Tomorrow I will give you some basics on goal writing and development.  Until then, start writing a list of your dreams.  What are the areas of your life that you want to set goals for?  Do not limit yourself.  If it is a dream that only you know about, still write it down.  Do not let the enemy lie to you and tell you that it is dumb or ridiculous.  If you just have a spark of a dream in there, then write it down.  At this point, do not limit yourself.  Big or small, write them all.  This is the fun part.  There are no rules and no limitations; only dreams.    So grab that paper and get started on the path to your dreams.

Thank you to all of you for your prayers and care during my recent surgery.  Everything went well and I am recovering quickly.  I now look forward to good health and energy to pursue my own dreams.  Please share my blog with your friends and associates and make sure YOU subscribe is you haven’t already.

Debbie I have read your blog. and it is so wonderful how the Lord is helping you to write what is of the Lord.

I so enjoyed what you wrote on all levels. I even ran some off to mail to Gail.

I know that our dreams come from the Lord and they are called visions, and our Lord tells us those who have no visions will perish. so many have none they live in a death daily. Jody
