Love Sweet Love

November 14, 2011

“What the world needs now is love sweet love.  That’s the only thing that there’s much too little of.”  These words written to a song by Burt Bacharach in1965 still ring true today.

If there was a survey of all mankind, I truly believe 100% would all agree with the words to this song.  All of us would benefit and probably desire more love in our lives.

Loneliness is a serious problem in our society.  I think that more people than we realize are struggling with loneliness, even feelings of rejection.  The person in the crowded store, the window person at your favorite drive through who talks to and takes 100’s of orders a day, even the person who sat next to you at church last week.  They all are wishing someone would see them, truly see them and offer just a little love.

But most of us have little time to love.  We are running through the drive through and grabbing dinner on the run.  We are on a mission while we are shopping.  We have ten more things to do when we are finished with this store.  We made it to church today just by the skin of our teeth and we have to hurry home right after the service.  Who has time to love?

So, countless people plod through life.  Each of us invisible to the other as we whirl through life and our tremendous “to do” lists.  Beneath each exterior, a heart that longs for fellowship, a heart that longs to be noticed and heart that longs to love and be loved.

As we begin to enter this holiday season, our ‘To do’ lists will grow exponentially.  The faces around us will become a bigger blur.  Our hearts will harden little by little as we try to accomplish more and more.  Oh Dear Mama, if you could just stop and look.  Look at the hurting hearts that surround you.  Unfortunately you don’t have to look far.  They may be in your own family.  You yourself may be one of them.

It is time to put people at the top of our “To Do” lists.  The things that we are doing or trying to accomplish pale in comparison to the needs around us.  We are the vessels that God’s love needs to flow through.  Is your faucet turned on?  Is your agenda too full to be about God’s agenda?  What the world needs now is love sweet love.  Will you be the one to bring it today?

I find myself singing that line frequently to my children when they’re crabby with each other. LOL Beautiful post! I love you, dear friend!
