An Amazingly Good Time by: Josh Spence

September 7, 2011

Today I have a treat for you.  I am borrowing my 16 year old son Josh’s writing homework.  Advice straight from our target audience, our kids.  So enjoy and heed his advice.

You are running up the beaches of Normandy, dodging mortar barrages and heavy suppressive fire from fifty caliber machine guns positioned on the cliffs above you, when suddenly a live grenade detonates next to your position and sends a deafening ring through your ears.

Movies can really make you feel like you’re in the action and it’s a great way to hang with family and friends and enjoy yourself at the same time. They are visualy entertaining and exciting. Genres of movies vary widely from comedy to sci-fi, satisfying a large varity of people. Stunning visual affects, dedicated actors and masterful orchestral compositions make for a briliant display.

But even with all it has to offer, watching a movie doesn’t quite match how amazing it is to get outside and experience the great outdoors when camping.

While camping, you aren’t just seeing the beautiful sights of the countryside but you are also hearing birds, smelling awesome camp food, and feeling the cool breeze and warm sun against your skin. That’s better than just seeing a movie. And what makes it even better is having friends and family along for the camping trip. Plus it doesn’t hurt to have a couple extra people to help set up and tear down camp. While camping there are so many activites that can be done. These include, but are not limited to: Fishing, kayaking, cooking, swimming, hiking, of course eating the awesome food you cook over the fire. And while you are enjoying all these awesome camping activities, you are creating memories that will last a life time and friendships that will last forever.

So what sounds better to you? Sitting inside watching a movie or getting out in the warm sun and fresh air, grabbing a couple of friends and heading into the woods? You’ve got plenty of time for movies this winter so enjoy these last couple weeks of nice temperatures and get outside. Cook yourself an awesome stew over the fire with a couple of different meats and vegetables instead of sitting down with some popcorn. Go camping. It is an amazingly good time.

I love it! I am going outside, right now, with my Bonnie, and we are building a fire in the fire pit, going to cook some chili on it, and keep the fire going all day, until Bible study tonight. We will do a little Bible reading, U. S. History, and math out back by the fire, laying on the sleeping bags while getting some sun to help us produce some Vitamin D to make our bones strong. Thanks Josh! We are going to enjoy the outdoors, the cool breeze and the sunshine, not to mention the smell of the fire burning and the food sizzling! We have been persuaded. Tell Mrs. Watson your mission has been accomplished!
